Have you ever wondered how great musicians
make music look so EFFORTLESS?

Jennifer Roig-Francolí: That's what I used to wonder as a child in pursuit of a musical career.
Now, I understand how it's done, and I can teach you how to do it!
Here's my story...

IN PURSUIT OF A SOLO CAREER...

I was born into a musical family with loving parents who understood how important it is to find good teachers and practice well to develop as a musician. I will be forever grateful for their support in sending me to study the violin internationally with some of the best: Suzuki, Milstein, Cerone, Gingold, Stanley Ritchie (baroque violin)...

Growing up with a single-minded purpose (I LOVED that violin!!), I became quite successful - winning competitions and performing with orchestras. I was even featured in TIME Magazine and performed at Carnegie Hall.

But deep down, I always knew that SOMETHING WAS MISSING from my playing, even though I hid it well and it seemed like nobody else could tell.

My technique was good, but not as effortless or consistent as I wanted it to be. I knew that I had huge potential inside of me, but something intangible was blocking my ability to express it fully. That really frustrated me, but the assumption was that I just needed to practice harder and longer. I wasn't interested in doing that, though; somehow, I sensed that I wouldn't find the answer through a quantitative solution.

A MOVE AWAY FROM THE VIOLIN...

When I was 20, I willingly gave up my dream of becoming a famous soloist. I had just failed to place in a competition (an unpleasant new experience for me), and around the same time I decided to get married.

I started freelancing after that, and reduced my practicing to the minimum necessary to learn my part for a performance. I won an orchestra audition and started playing in the back of the 2nd violins in the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, but I auditioned for another orchestra years later and didn't even pass the preliminaries.

In many ways, I lost my joy of making music (except in performances), and I would literally go months without taking my violin out of its case.

During those years, I started having more and more problems. An "essential tremor" emerged which had a negative influence on my bowing technique; I occasionally couldn't use my left pinky because of sharp pain; I experienced my first performance anxiety; and I endured a strange period of neck pain that wouldn't go away with either regular physician or chiropractic care. Nothing helped, and I became quite unhappy!

A LIFE CHANGER...

In 2003, I finally took some Alexander Technique (AT) lessons in a desperate attempt to get rid of the neck pain. The pain disappeared within a couple of lessons, but everything about the experience completely changed my life.

10,000 hours of violin practice could not have taught me what I ended up learning indirectly through studying AT. Some of the best "violin" lessons I've ever had were with AT teachers over the years - some of whom were not even musicians.

Now, 27 years after I abandoned my childhood dreams and lost all motivation to improve my playing, I find myself practicing again with renewed fervor. A musical depth and technical facility that I could never access before are revealing themselves.  I'm in constant amazement at what I'm learning about myself and what is possible.

I'm continually surprised to see how I keep getting better and better - not by "woodshedding" and hacking away at my instrument for hours every day - but by simply paying careful attention to how I'm thinking, and how my mode of thinking affects my body and ease (or lack of ease) of my movements.

LET ME TEACH YOU FROM MY EXPERIENCE!

I've been teaching the Alexander Technique (mostly at UC-CCM, Japan, NYC, and online) since I completed a 3-year AmSAT training and certification process in 2009.  I completed a second certification with ATI in 2015. I continue to learn and hone my skills through further study, most notably and currently with Mio Morales, whose teaching method I am now teaching to my own students because it works so well!

There is nothing I enjoy more than sharing what I've learned with other musicians who are struggling to overcome their own obstacles to musical joy and success!

In my experience, there is absolutely nothing more satisfying and useful than learning how to have better "constructive conscious control" of YOURSELF, because YOU are your primary instrument! When you stop interfering with your natural coordination, everything becomes easier, and your music-making - and your overall well-being - improves automatically!

In this series of classes, you will learn the ESSENTIAL SECRET that true artists know intuitively for entering a flow state of effortless music-making!
